"Be Like the Rest of the World so they will Like Us."(?)

I mean, since when was THAT important to Americans. Our ancestors came over to get AWAY from the rest of the world.

But that seems to be the rallying cry of those supporting Barack Obama, the Democratic Party nominee for the Presidency of the United States. Try telling a Texan that he/she needs to be more like the French or British or Egyptians or Zimbabweans... and see your self laughed out of town.

Well, lets just look at what the world has done for the world, being like the world, and then lets look at what Americans have done for the world, being uniquely American.

For thousands of years the world gave the world the candle
Americans in short order gave the world electricity and the light bulb.

For thousands of years the world gave the world the horse and carriage
Americans in short order gave the world the automobile.

For thousands of years the world gave the world only dreams of flying like a bird
Americans in short order gave the world the airplane.

For thousands of years the world gave the world the carrier pigeon
Americans in short order gave the world the telephone.

I could go on, and on, and on. I don't really care to be like the world so the world "will like us". I prefer to be the American citizen and not the world citizen, the citizen that many in the world dream of being.
